ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
Emergency care for victims of a cardiac arrest includes providing Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support as quickly as possible. Patients in hospital should have the advantage of receiving both of these interventions in a short period of time.
Since patients requiring cardiac life support have a far greater chance of survival when there is effective advanced life support available, those involved with provision of emergency care should have the skills necessary to provide this level of care.
This program is designed to provide those involved in the delivery of Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) with the knowledge and skills to do so according to standards established by the Heart and Stroke Foundation within their respected professions.
Upon completion of this two day Provider Course the ACLS Provider will become familiar with:
-Managing the first 10 minutes of the resuscitation of a patient in cardiac arrest
Advanced skills acquired during the program include:
-Airway management (invasive and non-invasive adjuncts) appropriate to the learner
-Defibrillation including use of AED (automatic external defibrillator)
-Transcutaneous Pacing / Synchronized Cardioversion
-Basic rhythm recognition and recognition on a 12 lead ECG of the most common changes of the Acute Coronary Syndromes
-Selection of appropriate medications consistent with the ACLS algorithms
-Using the ACLS approach to complete Primary & Secondary ABCD surveys.
All registrants must have a BLS Provider CPR certification obtained within twelve months prior to the ACLS Course from the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support is a 2 day (16 hour) Program that is valid for 2 years from date of successful completion.
PALS (Paediatric Advanced Life Support)
Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is a 2 day Heart and Stroke training program.
The goal of the course is to aid the healthcare provider in developing the knowledge and skills necessary to efficiently and effectively manage critically ill infants and children, resulting in improved outcomes. Professional healthcare providers use PALS during the stabilization and transportation phases of a pediatric emergency medicine in and or out of hospital environments.
Skills covered include but are not limited to:
-Recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest
-The systematic approach to the pediatric assessment
-Effective respiratory management
-Use of manual defibrillation
-Synchronized cardioversion / transcutaneous pacing
-Intraosseous access, fluid bolus and proper medication administration
-Effective resuscitation team dynamics.
All registrants must have a BLS Provider CPR certification obtained within twelve months prior to the PALS Course from the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support is a 2 day (16 hour) Program that is valid for 2 years from date of successful completion.
ITLS (International Trauma Life Support)
ITLS is accepted internationally as the standard training course for pre-hospital trauma care. It is taught not only as a continuing education course, but also used as essential curriculum in many paramedic, and First responder training programs.
ITLS courses combine classroom learning and hands-on skill stations. They also challenge the student with scenario assessment stations where learning is put to work in simulated trauma scenarios.
ITLS provides optimal care for the injured in the pre-hospital and emergency setting. The program provides training options to suit the requirements of all levels and backgrounds of emergency personnel around the world.Upon completion of the Provider Course the ITLS Provider will become more familiar with:
Management of a scene and trauma care.
Advanced skills acquired during the program include:
- Airway management (invasive and non-invasive adjuncts) appropriate to the learner
- Spinal Injury Management with Back Boards and Cervical Collars
- Application and use of Traction Splints
- Application and use of the Kendrick Extrication Device
- Selection of appropriate medications and IV therapy consistent with specific trauma patients
- Completion of a scene survey and evaluation
- Bandaging and splinting of injuries to body extremities
All registrants should have a BLS Provider CPR certification obtained within twelve months prior to the ITLS Course
International Trauma Life Support is a 2 day (16 hour) Program that is valid for 3 years from date of successful completion.

CAMATA Level One program is a 2 day (16 hour) Program that is valid for 4 years from date of successful completion.
First Aid / BLS (CPR)
Standard First Aid provides comprehensive training covering all aspects of first aid and CPR. Standard First Aid incorporates all of Emergency First Aid and is designed for those who require a more in-depth understanding of first aid including: medical/legal aspects of first aid treatment, spinal injuries, heat or cold injuries, bone and joint injuries, abdominal and chest injuries, burns and medical emergencies.
Standard First Aid consists of a 2 day (16 hour) Program that is valid for 3 years from date of successful completion.
BLS / CPR The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada sets the guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training to improve the odds of survival from Canada’s leading cause of death. Knowing how to respond to a cardiac emergency can increase a person’s odds of survival and recovery by 30% or more.
BLS Courses are designed to meet your needs and requirements. Various certification levels are available based on need and experience of students.
Topics covered can include: Adult, Child and Infant CPR (both 1 and 2 person), Adult, Child, Infant Choking, Oxygen Delivery, AED use, Resuscitation using a Bag Valve Mask (BVM).
